At 91��Ʒ, English lessons are designed to empower students to interpret, question, and explore the world around them. Grounded in the study of literature in its many forms, our curriculum is designed to empower students to engage with complex ideas, diverse perspectives, and develop an appreciation for the power of language.

From Ancient Greek tragedies and Shakespearean drama to contemporary novels, films, and short stories, students explore enduring questions of humanity, cultural narratives, and shifting worldviews. Through fiction, non-fiction, and media texts, they examine how stories and arguments influence identity, belief, and social understanding.

The nurturing and development of each students’ voice is centred within our classrooms – they are a place where students become strong thinkers, writers, and communicators. They learn that by critically analysing persuasive language, rhetorical strategies, and stylistic choices, they can not only evaluate texts but construct their own arguments and stories with clarity and conviction. Units of study are intentionally designed to foster agency, including those that offer opportunities for students to select ‘focus novels’ and shape their own inquiries.

The English department works closely with students to cultivate excellence across the foundational skills of reading, writing, speaking, and listening across Years 7 to 12. This not only prepares students for the demands of VCE but also equips them with critical and expressive capabilities essential for life beyond the classroom.

At 91��Ʒ, Humanities education empowers students to understand the world – its past, present, and future. They explore people, histories, cultures, landscapes, and systems, considering the challenges and choices that shape human experience. Through this journey, they develop not only knowledge, but also empathy, curiosity, and purpose.

From Years 7 to 12, our program fosters critical thinking, ethical reflection, and informed decision-making. Students engage in inquiry-based research, analysis, debate, simulations, and collaborative projects that build skills to evaluate evidence, embrace diverse perspectives, and communicate with confidence. Supported by expert staff, dedicated learning spaces, and a well-resourced library, students connect ideas across disciplines and think big.

Health, Physical Education, and Food Studies, challenges students to build resilience, and grow as confident, capable individuals. Our dynamic Physical Education program goes beyond physical & sporting skills – it nurtures confidence, teamwork, and leadership. From Early years to Senior levels, students build communication and perseverance through collaboration.

With access to exceptional facilities – including our state-of-the-art Physical Performance Centre, multiple netball and tennis courts, and a spacious oval – students experience a diverse and engaging curriculum. In Senior years, there is a strong focus on balance, mental wellbeing, student agency, and developing lifelong physical activity habits.

In Food Studies, students explore International and Indigenous cuisines, experimenting with unique ingredients and techniques. These hands-on experiences inspire creative dishes that celebrate cultural diversity, sustainability, and community connection.

Health classes empower students to explore factors that shape individual and collective wellbeing. Through meaningful, student-led projects, they address real-world health issues and promote positive change within the school and broader community.

Mathematics at 91��Ʒ is engaging, rigorous and reflective of an ever-changing world.

At 91��Ʒ we pride ourselves on recognising that mathematics looks different for every student.
Accelerated opportunities across Years 9 – 11, enrichment classes in Years 5 – 8, smaller support classes in Years 9 – 11, individualised learning and support plans and Computer Science in Schools classes all ensure that the learning needs of our students are met, nurtured, and challenged.

Our passionate, skilled, and dynamic team of educators closely monitor student progress through a variety of assessment tools, allowing teachers to adapt and personalise their teaching to inspire students to achieve their personal best.

Outside the classroom, the curriculum is enriched with national competitions – Maths Olympiads, Mathematics Challenge and the Australian Mathematics Competition – targeted Masterclasses, Maths Games Days from Years 6 -10, Maths Assist lunchtime support sessions, STEM encounter days, excursions to highlight real life applications of classroom mathematics, involvement in the facilitation of a statewide Maths Association of Victoria Maths Games Day and hands-on activities during our annual “Week of Pi.”

Religious Education and its VCE subjects, Religion & Society, Philosophy, and Texts & Traditions, explore the connection between faith and society. Faith and society are deeply interconnected, and it’s in their meeting point that the search for meaning unfolds. 

Learning takes place in classrooms, the chapel, and outdoor spaces for meditation. We provide the tools to deconstruct the teachings of the Church to enable the students to see how social justice is rooted in scripture. Senior classes explore morality, ethics, and informed decision-making as well as considering their role in society.

Religious education at 91��Ʒ invites students to ask questions, make sense of the world, and make real connections between what has been witnessed in faith with how society functions. The aim is for our students to become an informed global citizen with an understanding of the Catholic tradition and its role shaping a just and thoughtful world.

Science at 91��Ʒ spans from Years 5-12, offering diverse opportunities to build scientific understanding and inquiry skills.

Specialist Science-trained teachers lead classes in our seven fully equipped laboratories, enabling frequent, varied practical activities. Labs are well resourced with microscopes and electronic balances, and other equipment. Students utilise data logging equipment which allows them to explore Science through a real-world STEM perspective. Senior students are taught how to use specialised equipment including gel electrophoresis and spectrophotometers.

Through STEM-focused tasks and investigations, students work collaboratively while developing the key capabilities outlined in the Victorian Curriculum. These experiences prepare them for future studies in STEM and to engage with an ever-changing world. Our students don’t learn Science- they learn to think like Scientists.

The Visual Arts program at 91��Ʒ FCJ College fosters creativity, innovation and critical thinking from ELC to Year 12. Our students consistently achieve success in major exhibitions such as the Melbourne Royal Show and Seasons of Excellence: Top Arts, Top Designs and Top Screen.

A wide range of subjects is offered, including VCE Media, Art, Visual Communication Design and Product Design Technology. In the Middle Years, students explore electives such as Creationeering, which combines art, design and technology using tools like laser cutting, 3D printing and AI.

Studio practices include painting, ceramics, printmaking, collage, textiles and more. Our light-filled, well-equipped art spaces are supported by expert teachers and technicians, with Junior School students learning in dedicated spaces such as Grange Hill.

Creativity is celebrated across the College through ongoing exhibitions and our annual ELC–Year 12 Art Exhibition, which showcases the talent and artistic growth of every student.

At 91��Ʒ, Digital Technology equips students with the skills and confidence to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital world.

In Years 7 and 8, students develop computational thinking and problem-solving skills through projects in game design, animation, multimedia and data representation. They are introduced to coding and digital tools that support creative and logical thinking.

In Years 9 and 10, students may elect to study Digital Technology, exploring areas such as UX design, cybersecurity, app development and the ethical use of digital systems. Hands-on projects include website creation, prototyping and interactive design.

At VCE level, students can pursue Applied Computing and Software Development. These studies build deeper knowledge in information systems, programming, data analytics and software design.

Across all levels, students are encouraged to think critically, innovate responsibly and create with purpose. The Digital Technology curriculum fosters adaptable, forward-thinking learners ready to contribute meaningfully to a digital future.

The Performing Arts program at 91��Ʒ empowers students to express themselves creatively, build confidence, and develop skills in music, drama and live production that last a lifetime from ELC to Year 12.

In the Junior School, students engage in classroom Music and Drama, focusing on composition, performance, improvisation and storytelling. These skills are showcased in the Semester Two Junior School Musical.

In Years 7 and 8, students study a semester of Music and a semester of Drama, covering musical elements, film music, guitar, theatre styles, character development, and script writing. A biennial co-curricular musical is also offered.

In Years 9 and 10, electives include Theatre Studies—exploring design, acting and live theatre—and Music, with focus areas in performance, theory, and critique. Students in Years 10–12 can participate in an annual play with Xavier College.

VCE options include Music Units 1–4 (including Repertoire and Contemporary) and Theatre Studies.

Students in Years 7–12 can join Gen Productions, supporting performances through backstage roles, set design, lighting, sound and costume in the College’s professional theatres.

Early Learning Centre (ELC)
Italian is introduced through immersive, play-based experiences.

Junior School
From Prep to Year 4, students experience lessons in Italian, using a combination of gestural-based approaches and practices of the PYP.

In Years 5 and 6, approach the classroom with a view to their future academic studies of Languages at 91��Ʒ.

Senior School
In Years 7 to 8, students choose a language from:

• Italian
• Chinese (Mandarin)

Students entering 91��Ʒ at Year 8,9 and 10 in 2026 can also choose French.

91��Ʒ offers a unique Encounter Day Program for Year 9 students, allowing them to experience language and culture in an authentic setting and context.

In Year 10, the following languages are offered as electives:

• Latin
• Chinese (Mandarin)

In Years 11 and 12, students may continue with Units 1-4 in:

• French
• Italian
• Latin
